Music Video Monday #2

Yet another reason for me to have one day a week dedicated to a consistent theme is that it will give you, the reader, an indication of when you can always expect a new post.  I plan to blogue 2-3 times a week, but as a result of other work, I may have an occasional hiatus.

This week we shift gears from Devin Townsend's industrial thrash towards a darker art.  Loits is an Estonian black metal band that gravitates towards WWII as a musical theme.  This is a well-directed video, and the music is not centered on blast beats and tremolo like orthodox black metal.  It's simple, it has atmosphere, and it has a few surprises (musically) that make it a memorable song.

The "message," if you will, of the video isn't too hard to figure out, but one thing stuck out to me that has been kind of puzzling.  The only time you see people actually moving (more than just their heads or eyes) is when you are seeing them in a reflection.  Is there some significance or symbolism to this that I'm not getting?  What do you guys think?  People moving in a reflection is prevalent enough to make me think it is significant, especially with how the shots are filmed, and that no one is seen moving otherwise.  I just don't get why....it could have something to do with the lyrics or title of the songs.....but I don't speak that language, and neither do you, most likely.

Here it is: Loits- Haavad Uulitsal

  1. Interesting music and video...while it is not of my personal taste, I thought I would recommend someone that you might not have heard of, Jeff Loomis, the guitarist from Nevermore.

I've just downloaded his solo Album "Zero Order Phase" and am quite impressed so far...if you don't have it here is a link...
